WEIRTON - The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Aug. 13 at the Serbian American Cultural Center on Colliers Way with President Joan Spano presiding.

Chaplain Mary Ann Smith led devotions.

Recording Secretary Carol Lyons read a letter from Marine Club Member Donald Toothman asking for auxiliary and club volunteers for the Toys for Tots campaign, which will be held Dec. 1-2 at the Three Springs Drive Ponderosa Steak House. This year, 26 volunteers are needed, and each pair will be on duty for two hours.

The auxiliary received two thank-you letters from Stacy Brown, administrator at the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville, for birthday cards sent to residents in July and August. The auxiliary also received a thank-you from Boatsie's Boxes for a donation and from the Renshaw family for the club and auxiliary's assistance. Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott reported on cards sent.

Historian Marcy Spano showed members pictures taken at Cabela's to honor military heroes and the Boatsie's Boxes-Cabela's event.

Shirley Brecht proposed the group do something for Tri-State Area veterans in nursing homes for the holiday season.

Joan Spano sent seven birthday cards to veterans' home residents.

Joan Spano won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to the treasurer.

Maxine Ragan, LaVonne Balint and Joan Spano have begun addressing Christmas cards for active-duty troops for the holiday season. To date, they have addressed 350 cards, which will be sent to Boatsie's Boxes.

Leroy Bee was in charge of refreshments, and Elizabeth Shipe will be in charge for the September meeting. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the cultural center.
