What is Obama trying to hide?

September 2, 2012
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

Hypocrisy. There's no other word for it. Yes, there is. Fiendishly brilliant planning, straight out of Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals." Make the "conversation" about your opponent and deflect attention from your own inadequacies.

The president's campaign has the nerve to demand 12 years of tax returns from Mitt Romney, when other candidates, including Romney, made public the customary number of years. What about the president's records? Occidental College Records - sealed. Columbia College records - sealed. Columbia thesis paper - sealed. Harvard College records - sealed. Selective Service registration - sealed. Medical records - sealed. Illinois State Senate schedule - sealed. Illinois State Senate records - sealed. Law practice client list - sealed. Certified copy of original birth certificate - sealed. Signed embossed certification of live birth - sealed. Social Security card - from a state (Connecticut) he never lived in. The president's people have spent millions sealing those records. Could they be hiding something? How can the mainstream press be so uninterested in the president's background? What does it say about the press and, more important, about the political class of this nation, and what does this mean for us? Doesn't anyone care? Just who is this guy anyway?

The election is about whether the American people re-elect the president or not. We need to focus on his record. For one example, from a myriad of problems, he is causing, how do you like his war on coal? This is what he said on Jan. 17, 2008: "If somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can, it's just that it will bankrupt them ... under my plan of cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

It's scary what he could do without having to worry about another election, considering what he's done so far. Romney's tax returns are a sideshow. Don't be gullible and take the bait, on this and future distractions. They're counting on us being distracted or just plain stupid.
