Blue Dons shut down Crusaders

WEIRTON - The Grubbs sisters made a play late in the game Tuesday and it was all that was needed for the Weirton Madonna girls soccer team.

In a contest played mostly between the 18s, Rachel Grubbs made a few moves and found sister Leanne, who put the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 victory over Steubenville Catholic Central at the J.C. Williams Complex.

It was the second straight 1-0 loss for the Crusaders.

The goal in the 70th minute gave the Blue Dons a 2-1 record. Catholic Central fell to 3-2.

Amy Davis finished with 13 saves for Madonna, while Moriah Vosteen totaled five saves for the Crusaders.

Golden Bears down Wildcats

NEW MANCHESTER - The Oak Glen girls soccer team raised its record to 3-1 with a 4-3 victory over visiting Edison on the new turf at Oak Glen Stadium.

Megan Collins found the back of the net three times and had an assist for the winners.

Alex Burch contributed a goal and assist and Cassandrea Dereman an assist. Casey Highfield had four saves for Oak Glen, which visits Brooke at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Edison had goals from Allie Byrley, Meghan Scott and Bethany Bube. Jen Sheets tallied 14 saves.

Brooke blanks John Marshall

WELLSBURG - The Brooke girls soccer team rolled to a 6-0 win over John Marshall Tuesday at the Brooke High School Athletic Complex.

The Bruins (2-4) Received a three-goal outing from Michaela Hinerman. Sarah Hardsock, Dynah Sayre and Shelby Cronin chipped in with a goal each. Amber Govey, Cheyenne Hudson and Kirsten Minger each added an assist, with goalie Marena Cline saving two shots in the win.

John Marshall goaltender Autumn Schultz had 17 saves.

Cadets defeat Crusaders

STEUBENVILLE - The Catholic Central boys soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision Tuesday to Linsly at the Crusaders Athletic Complex.

Leo Herrmann scored the lone goal for Central unassisted in the 57th minute. Goalkeeper John Bolter finished with 11 saves.

Mason George, Jamaal Ebanks and William White each had a pair of goals for the Cadets (2-1). George's scores put Linsly up 2-0 after 10 minutes and Ebanks scored his first two minutes later.

Assists for the cadets went to Westen Mead, George, Robert Felton, Sung Bok Yoo and Cory Cunningham.

The Crusaders (1-2) visit Magnolia at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Linsly will host Brooke at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Oak Glen handles Wheeling Central

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen boys soccer team defeated Wheeling Central 4-1 Tuesday at the Bear's Den.

Justin Bailey had three goals and Addison Sayre had three assists to lead the Golden Bears. Cullen Bennet had a goal and Eric Oliver had an assist to round out scoring for the victors. Nick Fryer stopped four shots.

Josh Pawloski scored the Maroon Knights goal with goaltender Bryce Ghaphery saving 16 shots.
