group to meet

The Steubenville High School Alumni Association will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Scaffidi's Restaurant in Steubenville.

Festival topic for

AARP chapter

The AARP Chapter 3846 of Weirton's Aug. 13 meeting included a presentation on the Festival of Nations by Dr. Juginder K. Luthra. It was held Saturday at the Weirton Event Center.

President Joann Bugin presided at the meeting where Carol Irvine gave the invocation and benediction.

Entertainment Chair Bettye Williamson introduced Stone Street Station, who provided entertainment. Joe Diamond will provide September's entertainment.

Introduced were Mary and Paul Yates, guests of Chuck and Joann Bugin; Honey Moore, guest of Mary Hvzdzak; and Margaret Chapman, guest of Nancy Smurda.

Reports were given by Barbara Purks, secretary, and Frank Fazio, treasurer.

August birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged.

Upcoming tours include:

Friday, Rivers Casino;

Oct. 11, "American Bandstand"; and

Oct. 28, "Tony and Tina's Wedding."

Milton Fabianich reported the group collected 35 pairs of glasses and nine cell phones. Barb McCoy collected $9.10 in July for the penny jar.

Various prizes were presented. Winners included Bea Bishop, Bill Wright, Elizabeth Messerly, Alice Cooke, Vivian Tustin, Mary Tyson, Valeria Adamczyk, Joann Clark, Joyce Rzepka, Midge Green, Claire French, Mario Perito, Barb Visnic, Jeanne Perito, Al Hecathorn, George Kucan and Kathryn Hardsauk.

The board meeting will be held Sept. 4, and the regular meeting will be held Sept. 10. Those attending are asked to support their favorite sports team by wearing team attire.

Art Beal, band at

Country Friends

Country Friends will host Art Beal and the Country Tradition band Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

Country Friends has events every Monday, Friday and Saturday at the hall. The doors open at 6 p.m. Saturday, and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

On Monday and Friday the doors open at 4 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. Participants can bring a covered dish for the meal that begins at 5 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christianity, friendship and brotherly love through music.

County GOP women plan event

The Jefferson County Federated Republican Women will host a public event from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at the new GOP Victory Center in the Fort Steuben Mall.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the Bill Johnson for Congress and Josh Mandel for Senate campaigns; discuss ballot issues; register to vote; pick up literature and yard signs; and find out how to get involved.

Anyone is welcome, including interested teens, according to Kimberly Hahn, president.

The JCFRW has two additional meetings scheduled at the same location - one for Sept. 17, the other Oct. 15.
