Romel, council chairman for the awards banquet and prom held for all athletes who participated in the Special Olympics; and Ruth Sperry, Jefferson County Athletics Committee treasurer.
The Measure-Up Campaign traditionally is held the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May.
Don Hall, grand knight of the Steubenville Knights of Columbus Council 472, expressed appreciation for the public's contributions to the fundraising efforts.
"You have afforded us the opportunity to help the developmentally disabled citizens of our community," Hall said.
Hall also thanked Walmart and Riesbeck's for allowing council representatives to solicit contributions on their premises. Council officers and directors also extended appreciation to Auteri and council members who helped solicit funds.
Through the statewide Measure-Up Campaign that was established in 1976, the local council has raised in excess of $60,000 for the developmentally disabled.
Since the initial Special Olympics games in 1968, the Knights of Columbus at the state and local level has donated a cumulative total of $70 million to support the organization.
The Sperrys and Scheutz thanked the council for its support of the awards presentation and prom as the council provides both the hall and refreshments.
Sperry said the athletes look forward to an evening of "dining and dancing." Sperry also said organizations or businesses interested in making donations to Special Olympics can contact him at (740) 283-1603.
"We are asking that you continue your full support of the 2013 Measure-Up Campaign. Contributions can be made at any time. By taking part in the Steubenville Knights of Columbus' fundraising efforts, you will help us to help the developmentally disabled citizens of our community. Look for the orange vests," Hall said.
