ADDITION: Dr. Venkata K. Kella has joined the medical staff at Weirton Medical Center.

Kella will be responsible for general and limited bariatric surgery at Weirton Medical Center and also will perform upper/lower endoscopies and colonoscopies.

He most recently served a minimally invasive/bariatric surgery Fellowship at the University Medical Center in Princeton, N.J.; completed his residency at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in New York; and his post-graduate training in general surgery in India and the United Kingdom.

Kella earned his medical degree from Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam, India, and is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. He has experience in a wide range of gastric operative techniques, including resections and bypass; hernia, obstructions and colonic perforations; skin and soft tissue swelling; and other stomach, small bowel and colon problems.

A leader in advanced techniques for gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgery, Kella has published and presented more than 20 technical papers and has advanced training in laparoscopy and bariatric surgery.

Charles M. O'Brien Jr., Weirton Medical Center's chief executive officer, said Kella's experience and skills in general and bariatric surgery "add to our expanding staff of high quality health care professionals WMC makes available to our patients."

The contest, sponsored by the Jefferson County Regional Planning Commission, runs through the end of August, when two winners will be chosen in a random drawing. You must be a Jefferson County resident to win. There are two ways to complete the survey:

At the Jefferson County Fair Tuesday through Aug. 19 at the Farm Bureau booth in the commercial building. Those interested can fill out a paper copy of the survey and drop it in the box.

There are four questions in addition to some contact information.

The land use plan is being developed by the Ohio Rural Communities Assistance Program, based in Fremont and overseen by a core committee representing a variety of public and private sector entities. The project was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development. The Land Use Plan will suggest goals and steps that lead to cost-effective development, an enhanced quality of life and new activities that support other strategic planning under way among the county's local governments, institutions and businesses.

CHOSEN: Nikolas A. Kamarados, a certified financial planner and financial planner with Prudential's Central/Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia office, qualified to attend the company's president's conference held in Palos Verdes, Calif.

The conference, hosted by John Greene, president of agency distribution, is held each year to honor a select number of top performing producers from across the country who qualify based on production results in the prior year.
