19 levies, issues on ballot in Jefferson

STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County voters will be asked to cast ballots on 19 issues and levies in the Nov. 6 general election.

The filing deadline was 4 p.m. Wednesday at the county board of elections.

Tuesday also was the filing deadline for two non-partisan county court judge seats. Incumbents David J. Scarpone of 209 Mound St., Tiltonsville, and Joseph M. Corabi of 3 Normandy Drive, Wintersville, were the only candidates to file and will be uncontested in the general election.

Scarpone is the judge in Dillonvale county court, and Corabi is the Toronto county court judge.

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9 for the Nov. 6 general election.

The following issues and levies were submitted to the county board of elections,

Steubenville, renewal of 5 mills for current expenses for five years.

Steubenville Precinct 2-2, Kroger Co., local option, Sunday sale of spirituous liquor from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Steubenville Precinct 6-2, Puerto Vallarta Restaurant, local option, on premises sale of spirituous liquor.

Steubenville Precinct 6-2 , Puerto Vallarta Restaurant, local option, Sunday sale of wine and mixed beverages and spirituous liquor from 11 a.m. to midnight.

Amsterdam, renewal of 0.5 mill for recreation for five years.

Dillonvale, renewal of 2 mills for current expenses for five years.

Empire, renewal of 5 mills for current expenses for five years.

Irondale, additional 4 mills for current expenses for five years.

Rayland, additional 3 mills for current expenses for five years.

Richmond, renewal of 2 mills for current expenses for five years.

Yorkville, renewal 1.5 mills for current expenses for five years.

Knox Township, excluding Toronto, villages of Empire and Stratton, renewal of 1 mill for general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repairing of roads for five years.

Island Creek Township, excluding Toronto and Wintersville, additional, 1 mill for firefighting and emergency medical services for five years.

Saline Township, additional 2 mills for current operating expenses for five years.

Smithfield Township, excluding villages of Adena, Dillonvale and Smithfield, additional 1 mill, general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repairs of streets, roads and bridges for a continuing period of time.

Buckeye Local School District, additional 2 mills for permanent for continuing period of time.

Edison Local School District, additional 9.45 mills for current expenses for continuing period of time.

Indian Creek Local School District, bond issue of 3.5 mills for constructing school facilities under the exceptional needs program of the Ohio School Facilities Commission and locally funded initiatives; renovating, improving and constructing additions to existing facilities, including furnishings and equipment; acquiring land and interests in land as necessary, in principle amount of $22 million for 37 years; and additional 1.45 mills for current expenses for five years.

Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District, additional 1 mill for current expenses, purchasing equipment for buildings and improving buildings, for 10 years.
