Family reunions

The 97th-annual Hanlin reunion was held July 14 at the Paris Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Paris, Pa. There were 48 in attendance.

The reunion began with grace offered by Shirley Jenkins, president. Jenkins gave the Hanlin history on the Lyons family and offered Hanlin family trivia.

Jenkins will remain president with other officers also continuing to serve, including secretary/treasurer Donna Bendick and historian Joan Spano. The reunion will remain at the same location next year.

A silent auction was held.

Door prize winners were won by Joe Higginbotham, Joan Spano, Chuck Elliott, Marcy Spano, Josi Elliott, Samatha Seavolt, Clara Leatherbury and Gertie Hanlin.

Prize winners included oldest member, Millie Reid; youngest member, Arden Davis; brought the most family members, Joan Spano; and traveled the farthest, Frank and Mable Boyd.

The Hanlin family is descended from Nancy Stewart Hanlin, widow of Alexander Hanlin. She emigrated to America from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, in 1792 with her seven children. In 1794 they moved to Washington County, Pa.


The annual Kerr reunion was held July 7 at Follansbee Park.

Guests were present from Mesa, Ariz; Dover, Deleware; Chicago; and Columbus.

The oldest members present were Jim Kerr Sr. and Paul Kolopajlo. There were 51 in attendance, including guests Michele Rynes and Allison Orsetti. Reunion arrangements were made by Julie Kerr Bernardini. The next reunion will be held in 2013.


The 55th Martino family reunion was held July 28 at Brooke Hills Park with 75 attending.

Prize winners were Anthony Perrone, Kent Kidder, Gloria Rairigh, Carolyn Gampolo, Angela Ford and Ralph Lorenzetti.

Emilia Recchio, JoAnn Perrone, Donna Kidder, Carl Anthony Martino, Frank Martino, Mary Gampolo, Sandy Casinelli and Stephen Marino were in charge of arragements.

The next reunion will be held July 27 at Brooke Hills Park with Tim and Ashley Ayers in charge.
