August 4, 2012
The Herald-Star

The New Cumberland United Church Social Service organization will host the Down by the Riverside benefit concert from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Fireman's Field on state Route 2, New Cumberland.

The event will include inspirational music, entertainment and food. Acts scheduled to perform include Nathan Harris, The Edge from Chippewa, Pa., Destiny House, Anaphero, John Edwards and Dave Byers and the 3:16 Band. DC Music of Calcutta will manage the sound boards.

Krazy 'Bout Sportz in Weirton has donated the use of a bounce house, and games and face painting will be available. A concession stand will be open, and proceeds benefit the social service organization.

New Cumberland United Church Social Services provides aid to families and individuals with resources such as the food closet, soup kitchen and monetary aid for utilities. With the poor economy, need is increasing and the group is looking for ways to continue providing aid.

The Down by the Riverside event is free, but those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the food closet. All proceeds through sponsorships and food sales will fund the organization's community work.
