Seal represents our city

August 5, 2012
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

I believe that the Freedom from Religion Foundation needs to find a new hobby when it comes to the city of Steubenville's seal. The Franciscan University of Steubenville is an iconic landmark, and the school is known worldwide. I had heard of the university long before moving here seven years ago.

Perhaps the FFRF should take on the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.? Their chapel appears on postcards, stationary and logos used at the USAFA, and is also a structure recognized worldwide. If the USAFA can have its chapel depicted in such a way, why must our local government cave in to the demands of intolerant busy-bodies with nothing better to do than whine?

How does a city seal involve the separation of church and state? It is a representation of what is in the city and not a representation of what the city government believes.

Shame on Steubenville Council. Shame on my fellow liberals. Shame on that local thin-skinned person who was so offended by a landmark.
