Board OKs personnel moves

STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Governing Board approved several personnel recommendations Monday during a brief monthly meeting.

The board unanimously approved the retirement of Marybeth Swartzmiller as assistant treasurer and then approved hiring Swartzmiller on a one-year limited basis.

The board also accepted the resignation of Michelle Rubalcava, a Virtual Learning Academy technology assistant, and then agreed to hire Rubalcava on an as-needed basis.

In other personnel business, the board approved:

Martariesa Fiala as a VLA technology assistant.

Kristi Sciarra as an aide.

Robyn Scott as a VLA teacher assigned to the Indian Creek Local school district.

Zachary Murray as an assistant technology coordinator in the Indian Creek Local and Buckeye Local school districts.

The board approved a contract with the Jefferson County Juvenile Court for alternative school professional teaching services.

And in other business, the board approved the $325 membership dues in the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools and the membership dues for the Ohio Educational Service Center Association at $2,043.

The board also approved membership dues at $410 for the Association of Educational Service Agencies and dues at $318.50 for the Ohio Coalition of Equity and Adequacy of School funding.

Board member Larry George was named the official delegate from the Governing Board to the annual business meeting of the Ohio School Boards Association set for Nov. 1.

Board President Ken Simeral was named an alternate for the meeting.

The board met in executive session following the public meeting to discuss legal issues.
