Animal fundraiser was a success

To the editor:

I am writing this letter to reflect on July 8's annual fundraiser for the Jefferson County Animal Welfare League sponsored by Janet A. Polverini, program director and fundraiser chairperson.

"Giddy Up, Let's Go to the Rodeo!" at St. Florian Hall was a spectacular event, with more than 300 people in attendance. Everyone that I met was impressed with how well the event was organized, and commented on the delicious food. Western-themed table decorations were unique, and the prize tables were fabulous. There was a lot of hard work by many people. It took many weeks of preparation to make this event wonderful.

There is such a great need for this drive to continue. We must all remember that the animals were the first creatures that God created. They have no voice and they need our assistance. Thousands of dogs and cats are born every day into a situation where they need to be spayed, neutered and placed in loving homes. This is a nonprofit charitable organization. If you desire to continue to help throughout the year, send a tax-deductible contribution to the Jefferson County Welfare League and mail your check to: Arlene MacQuown, 129 Meadow Road, Wintersville, OH 43952

I support my sister, Janet Ann Polverini, for her dedication and hard work. She has a passion to make a difference for the animals of Jefferson County. She knows that it is through the contributions of everyone that this event was a success.

I am a substitute school teacher for the Middletown (Ohio) City School District, and a Mary Kay Beauty consultant. I am married to Gerald R. Firman of Mingo Junction. I was born and raised in Steubenville and have a deep love for the community. I truly miss my family and friends. I had made plans to stay overnight to assist with this benefit when I learned that my sister had been ill a couple weeks. I am so glad that we stayed overnight to attend this function. My sister is a guardian angel with a big heart. Her dreams are big. Her vision is to see that all of the animals are saved.

I donated a Mary Kay basket valued at more than $120. I am offering back to my hometown community a 10 percent donation to the Animal Welfare League from every resident of Jefferson County who places an order for Mary Kay cosmetics through me. I will see that MacQuown, the organization's treasurer, receives your donation, and you will receive a receipt from me for your purchase and donation.

My husband and I were proud and honored to assist Janet and all of the other people that were there. It was fabulous. Janet, you can count on me to be there to assist next year. God Bless everyone who made a contribution to this benefit.
