The Herald-Star

Anna Tipton's second-grade class at Harrison North Elementary School paid a visit near the end of the school year to the Ourant one-room schoolhouse where activities included reading from McGuffey Readers, getting science and history lessons, learning Bible verses and painting a rock.

A special guest was Richard Greenlee, dean of Ohio University Eastern who sang and played songs on the banjo.

He explained the banjo originated in Africa and encouraged the children to "always read and dream big."

He also read the story "Banjo Granny" written by Sarah Martin Busse and Jacqueline Briggs Martin and illustrated by Barry Root. He autographed each child's book.

Participating were Skyler Salsberry, Ethan Turner, Madison Mackey, Jordyn Stewart, Autumn Ruckman, Greenlee, Dylan Ash, Devan Woods, Damien Blanchard, Jennie Wheeler, Anna Tipton, Kylie Stull, Alexis Dulkoski, Austin Erickson, Devyn Sproul, Clayton Everhart, Nathan Bertolino, Debbie Langell and Tillie Heavlin.
