Locals playing in all-star games

Three high school all-star football games will be played before the end of the month.

Steubenville Big Red graduate and Ohio State-bound Najee Murray will play for Ohio in the annual PNC Big 33 Football Classic at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.

Oak Glen's Lucas McDowell and Jeff Hissam, Brooke's Tim Faulkner, Weirton Madonna's Christian Roe and Weir's Ethan Barnes will compete for the south squad in the North-South Football Classic Saturday at the University of Charleston's Laidley Field.

Weir High coach Tony Filberto will lead that team.

The 33rd-annual Ohio-Pennsylvania Stateline Classic will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 29 at Springfield High School.

Playing for the Ohio squad will be Steubenville's Leshawn Luke, William Houst and Davon Wicker, Indian Creek's David Kemp, Mark Ludewig and Frank Ward, Edison's Shane O'Brien, Toronto's Aaron Thompson and Steubenville Catholic Central's Joe Fallon.

Indian Creek's staff, led by head coach Andrew Connor, will be the coaches.

Luke, Fallon and Toronto's Spenser Sninchak were $500 Quad County scholarship award winners.

Weirton Steelers to hold sign-ups

WEIRTON - The Weirton Steelers will hold registration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Wal-Mart, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. June 21-22 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 24 at the Shop 'N Save.

Toronto to host tournament

TORONTO - The Toronto Junior Baseball League will hold its Stars and Strikes All-Star Tournament ages 9-10 and 11-2 June 30 through July 5. All teams must be league all-star teams. Format will be determined by number of entries. Cost will be $125 per team.

Alford wins catfish tourney

CHESTER - East Liverpool's John Alford was the winner of the Chester-Newell Sportsmen's Club catfish tournament. Jared Pinkerton of East Liverpool was the second-place finisher. The next tournament will be held from Saturday.

Trbovich records an ace

EAST LIVERPOOL - Steve Trbovich recorded his first hole-in-one of his career at Beaver Creek Meadows Golf Course. The Toronto resident used an 8-iron on the 145-yard par 3 second hole.

The shot was witnessed by Jeff Reese, Ray Dalton and Rich Buono.
