Treasurer to put tax

bills into mail

STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Treasurer Raymond M. Agresta said tax bills for the second half of 2011 were to have been mailed today.

The last day for payment of this tax is July 11.

Persons not receiving a bill are asked to contact the county treasurer's office at (740) 283-8572.

Credit card payments are only accepted by telephone at (800) 2PAY-TAX (1-800-272-9829) or online at and use jurisdiction code 4577. Agresta said Official Payments, the service provider, charges a convenience fee for the service.

Payments of cash or check only can be paid at the treasurer's office on the first floor of the courthouse or at the following banks: Huntington National Bank in Bergholz, Richmond, Wintersville, Toronto and Tiltonsville; and Peoples National in Mount Pleasant.

School board

to meet today

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. today to discuss its comprehensive educational facilities plan.

The 10-year plan covers the school district's future plans for its school buildings and other facilities and calls for the school's two middle schools to be merged at one new building near Brooke High School and replacing its six elementary school buildings with two new ones.

The plans are pending availability of state funds and passage of a new county levy, and a specific timeline hasn't been set for them.

The meeting will be held at the board's office at 1201 Pleasant Ave.

Brooke track closed

for renovations

WELLSBURG - The athletic track at the Brooke High School football stadium is closed and will be through Aug. 15 while crews work to replace it.
