SWEENEY, John J., 84, of Bloomingdale, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at his home.
He was born April 20, 1928, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Daniel R and Clarice McCullough Sweeney.
John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from State of Ohio Tax Department as a tax examiner. The joy of John's life was his grandchildren and he devoted his time to attending their activities. John was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel R. Sweeney and an infant brother.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth I. Young Sweeney; children, Jeffrey (Diane) Sweeney of Hopedale, Ohio, Deborah (James) Kuyznski of Bloomingdale, Ohio, Karen (Richard) DeStefanis of Hopedale, Ohio, Kevin (Carla) Sweeney of Wintersville, Ohio, and Theresa Sweeney of Wintersville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and two nephews.
Private services were held today at Dunlope- Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad performed military honors.
