McCLAIN, James H. "Jim", 87, of Steubenville, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at Trinity West.

He was born in Steubenville on April 6, 1925, a son of the late Russell and Mary Ellen Hollis McClain.

Jim was retired from Ohio Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He was a very proud World War II veteran, having served with the 5th Marine Division during Iwo Jima and occupied Japan. He was a member of Pilgrim Lodge 691 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, Alladin Shrine, Steubenville Shrine Club, former Island Creek Township Trustee, Jefferson County Township Association, Marine Corps Association, Marines Band of Brothers, American Legion Post 557, Steubenville Rifle and Pistol Club, Lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, NRA member, Steubenville Saddle Club, American Saddle Bred Horse Association and horse show judge. Jim was also a guest at the commission of the U.S.S. Iwo Jima and attended many Marine Corps reunions. He attended Richmond Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his second wife, Ruth Himes McClain; son, James McClain and his sister, Lillian Mae Miller.

Jim is survived by his wife, Donna Moore McClain, they were married July 14, 1999; daughter, Nancy McClain and his son, Rusty (Georgia) McClain, both of Boulder City, Nev.; grand children, Sara (Matt) Sheldon of Boulder City, Nev., and Austin (Micheline) McClain of Las Vegas, Nev.; great grandchildren McKenzie, Jak and Lee Sheldon; step-daughters, Ruth "Tootie" (Ed) Shrieve of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Carol "Tiny" Scott of Toronto, Ohio; sister, Mary Ellen McClain Reed of Willoughby, Ohio; step- grandchildren, Sherry, Keith, Denise and David; five step-greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, Ohio, on Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where funeral will be held on Tuesday, 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Jason Elliott officiating. Masonic Services will be conducted Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Burial at Fort Steuben. Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
