WINTERSVILLE - Council members began laying the groundwork for relocation of a county school during Thursday's Village Council meeting.
Council began the process for the relocation of the Jefferson County Christian School from its present location in Mingo Junction to Wintersville, according to Walt Ziemba, village administrator.
"Council had the first reading of a ordinance amending the zoning at 125 Fernwood Road, which will be the (new) location for the Jefferson County Christian School," said Ziemba, adding an advertisement will be published in local newspapers soon announcing a public hearing on the proposed zoning change. "There also will be letters sent to residing businesses and residents informing them of the zoning change."
Ziemba said the public hearing on the matter is set for 6:30 p.m. June 7 in council chambers, and all interested parties are invited to attend. The zoning change is necessary for the school to relocate to the village, which will occur at the end of the present school year, he added. Ziemba also said there would be two more readings by council of the proposed ordinance before passage.
In other matters, Mayor Bob Gale and council congratulated Indian Creek boys basketball coach Joe Dunlevy for a successful season, said Ziemba.
"The mayor presented a proclamation to coach Dunlevy on behalf of the Indian Creek boys basketball team," said Ziemba.
Also, council gave the mayor authority to advertise for village paving projects for this year, Ziemba added.
"Council also approved a change order for (the village) signal project at the request of the Ohio Department of Transportation," said Ziemba, adding the change was minor in nature.
