Brooke, Patriots face elimination

GLEN DALE - The Wheeling Park softball team needed one run to beat Brooke, 1-0, Monday in the West Virginia Class AAA Region One, Section One Tournament.

The Patriots scored in the bottom of the fifth inning and that held up against the Bruins' Kaylee Kuchinski.

Wheeling Park then dropped a 5-4 decision to John Marshall in 12 innings, ensuring that Brooke and the Patriots will meet at 5 p.m. today with the loser having to pack their bags.

The winner will meet the Monarchs at 5 p.m. Wednesday and must beat them twice to advance.

Wildcats blank Potters

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Edison baseball team rasied its record to 20-2 with a 14-0 victory over host East Liverpool Monday. The Wildcats did their big damage in the seventh inning, scoring 10 runs.

Greg Stagani got the win, he struck out five and walked none. Chad Wickham pitched the final inning. Stagani ripped a home run and a double for four RBIs.

Wickham added a double and two RBIs, Mark Smyth two singles, Alec Jones a single and double and Philip Hilt a double and an RBI.

Edison visits Claymont Thursday and hosts Big Red Friday.

Carrollton tops Creek

MINGO JUNCTION - The Carrollton baseball team scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to put the icing on a 10-4 victory over host Indian Creek Monday at Muth Field.

Cole Yeater was saddled with the loss, the Redskins' second in the last eight games. He fanned five and walked four in five innings.

Sammy Orr and Ty Yocum each ripped two singles for an RBI for Indian Creek (9-14), which hosts Beaver Local today.

Redskins down Warriors

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek softball team had a 7-2 lead after three innings and cruised to an 8-2 win over visiting Carrollton Monday at Bantam Ridge Elementary.

Senior Ashley Starr earned the win, striking out six and walking none in going the distance. She also added a pair of singles for an RBI. Beckah Mazar collected two singles and blistered a home rum for two RBIs and Paige Geanangel had two singles and a double for three RBIs.

Ashley Shimko added two singles and a double and Brey Mays two singles.

Indian Creek hosts John Glenn today.

WHEELING - The Wheeling Central baseball team scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to come from behind to beat Buckeye Local, 10-9, Monday at the I-470 Complex.

Jonathan Borkoski had three singles and Josh Malesky and Shane Duncan each doubled for the Panthers.

Steve Barr led the way with a single, double, triple and sacrifice fly for three RBIs. Bub Haddox and Tyler Steed each added a single and two RBIs, Jeff Hissam a single, double and two RBIs and Brandon Engleheart two singles and an RBI.
