Wayne (Happy) Davis

DAVIS, Wayne (Happy,) 96, of Unionport, Ohio, died Friday, April 27, 2012, peacefully at Andover Village Nursing Home, Andover, Ohio.

Wayne was born in Unionport, Ohio on Nov. 11, 1915, the son of the late Lloyd and Maude Johnson Davis.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years Gleana Stewart Davis; a son, Gary Davis; three brothers, Albert, Donald and Glenn.

Happy was a graduate of Hopedale High School Class of 1933, a member of the Unionport Masonic Lodge #333, and the Unionport United Methodist Church.

From March 24, 1945 until his discharge on April 29, 1946, Wayne was in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Bowditch, earning an Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Metal as Yeoman 3rd Class.

After the Navy, Wayne worked the rest of his life selling insurance and working at West End Motors, in Wintersville, as a car salesman.

He is survived by a son, Robert Davis and wife Cindy of Andover, Ohio; three brothers, Dale, Harold, and Willard Davis; five grandchildren, Tami Davis of Texas, Cindy (Carl) Alban of Toronto, Ohio, Bobby (Marcy) Davis of Chicago, IL, Matt (Hope) Davis of Hopedale, Ohio, and Luke (Kristi) Davis of Arizona; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Blackburn Funeral Home at 324 High Street, in Hopedale, Ohio on Monday, April 30, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.

For those wishing to attend, the funeral service will be at graveside (only) at the Unionport Cemetery on Tuesday May 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Kellar officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unionport United Methodist Church.
