All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton and the Order of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association, Hancock Chapter No. 103, honored two members recently for meritorious service.
George Payne and George Antoniou were recognized recently for "their tireless work and faith to their beloved church" upon completing their term on the board of directors.
Payne serve on the board for 25 years and was its president the last six years. Antoniou served on the board for 20 years.
Both men participated in various fundraising projects that have helped keep the church financially sound. During their tenure, the church completed a $716,000 exterior restoration project, a $125,000 interior restoration and added an additional parking lot.
"Together, they have done many repairs throughout the church that saved the church thousands of dollars. Also, they participated in many church services - sunday services, funerals, baptisms and weddings," a church spokesman said.
"Both men were blessed with the support of their wives and families. Father Frank Milanese and the congregation wish them well in the coming years," according to a press release.
Metropolitan Savas, newly appointed head of the Metropolis of Pittsburgh, bestowed a proclamation of service to both men. In addition, George Adams, president of the local Order of AHEPA, presented them with a proclamation. After the service, a luncheon was held to honor all volunteers of the church.
