OVAC girls doubles titles won

WHEELING - The second day of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Tennis Championships took place Tuesday with the girls doubles matches being decided at the Wheeling Park Bubble.

The overall and Class 5A leader is University with 10 points. University featured champions at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Wheeling Park is currently in second place with seven points followed by Morgantown with six points. The rest of Class 5A is Parkersburg South with two points while John Marshall and Brooke each have one point.

Class 4A-1A is lead by Linsly girls with nine points and the champion in No. 1 doubles. The rest of Class 4A-1A has Oak Glen, St. Clairsville and Weirton Madonna with two points each, and Wheeling Central with one point.

The boys singles are set for today and the girls singles are scheduled for Thursday.

At No. 1 doubles, Morgan McDermott/Jackie McDermott of Linsly defeated Stephanie Arnold/Abby Rosiello of Morgantown 8-6.

No. 2 doubles saw Meghan Zerkel/Cassie Seamon of University beat Lexi Patterson/Emily Caperton of Wheelng Park 8-3.

No. 3 doubles had Chammi Rassekh/Shae Chico of University top Hannah Soloninka/Emily Weaver of Linsly 9-7(3).

Baseball league to hold opening day

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Baseball Association will hold its opening day Saturday, with ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. and the first game to start at 11 a.m.
