From staff reports , The Herald-Star

STEUBENVILLE - The Weir softball team needed something positive to build on, and freshman Abbey Pratt provided it.

The young hurler picked up her first career win on Tuesday afternoon, shutting out Steubenville on just three hits as Weir won 10-0 at Jim Wood Park.

Weir's Meikka Buffo started the game with a double down the left-field line and moved to third on a wild pitch, then she scored when an errant pickoff throw flew into left field.

After Haley McLaughlin drew a walk, Caitlyn Fodor hit a hard groundball into right-center field to drive home McLaughlin to give Weir a 2-0 lead.

Danica Rasicci followed with a base hit to right to put runners at first and third. After Rasicci moved to second Taylor Gianangeli grounded a single through the left side, plating Fodor with Weir's third run.

Gianangeli was caught trying to steal second base and Big Red pitcher Anna Perrino struck out the next batter, but the ball got away from the catcher and Rasicci was able to score as Mytia Barker threw to first to complete the strikeout.

Fodor and Rasicci each hit doubles and Rasicci and Gianangeli each drove in runs in the third inning as Weir stretched its lead to 6-0. Perrino pitched her way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam to limit the damage.

Weir added four unearned runs in fourth-inning rally that was fueled by a pair of outfield errors. Fodor, Gianangeli and Emily Zatezalo each delivered run-producing hits in the frame.

Fodor collected three hits, a pair of doubles, driving in two runs and scoring three times to lead Weir. Gianangeli also had three hits, a double and three RBIs for the Lady Riders. Rasicci had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while Buffo had a double to help Weir's cause.

Perrino, Freeman and Archer collected the hits for Big Red.

The Lady Riders (5-13) return to action Saturday when they host Beaver Local (8-11) at noon, while Big Red (5-17) is slated to return to the diamond today when they host Brooke (7-17).
