Chesapeake to lease 12,000 acres through landowners’ group

April 24, 2012
From staff reports , The Herald-Star

WEIRTON - Chesapeake Energy is positioned to lease more than 12,000 acres through the Hancock County Landowners' Group.

While specifics of the deal aren't being divulged, Chesapeake and Weirton attorney Jeff Rokisky, who represented the landowners, confirmed the agreement today.

Rokisky said he's satisfied the lease "is a fair offer with good financial terms and good protection for our landowners' land and water."

"The members of our group will decide on an individual basis whether or not to accept this offer," he added.

Stacey Brodak, senior director of corporate development for Chesapeake, would say only that the company is "pleased to enter into this partnership with the Hancock County Landowners' Group."

"Chesapeake's extensive experience in horizontal drilling and our leading best management practices made us a good fit for this group," Brodak said. "We look forward to bringing a positive impact to the local community."
