Weirton Pizza Hut relocating

WEIRTON - After roughly three decades at its current location in the Kmart Plaza, Weirton's Pizza Hut is moving.

The new location is in the strip plaza next to the Wal-Mart Super Center.

"We needed to refresh our image in the community out there," said Mike Bonnett, a principal in Sugarcreek Pizza Inc., the franchise holder. "The existing (location) that we had just would not meet the requirements that Pizza Hut needs to serve the community in Weirton."

Bonnett said the new storefront will allow them to offer drive-up service for carryouts along with their traditional dine-in and delivery services. It will feature what he describes as a "much fresher decor" with a hometown flair as well as all-new seating and tables. He said they'll also be able to offer new menu items, including the popular WingStreet wings, giving them a wider selection of sauces and flavors.

"We anticipate opening some time in the middle or late May," Bonnett said, pointing out the new restaurant is in a high-profile, high-traffic location. "We don't have an exact date yet."

Bonnett said they're excited about the move.

"It's a lot of work, it's taken us a little bit of time to get there but it's very exciting to get the opportunity to (move) into the new location out there," he said.

Between 30 and 40 people work at the Weirton location, a mix of full- and part-time workers.

Bonnett said Sugarcreek Pizza has 32 stores operating in West Virginia, Ohio and in Oakland, Md. Jody Welsh is the area coach, and Mary Jo Beadnell is the store manager.
