Redskins blast Big Red

STEUBENVILLE - The Indian Creek softball team outmuscled Big Red Thursday at Jim Woods Park 20-2 in five innings.

Ashley Starr gave up three hits and and struck out four to pick up the win. Freshman Paige Geanangel continued her hot streak at the plate, hitting her ninth home run of the season to go with a single, double and five RBIs. Ashley Shimko had a single, double and three RBIs; Ashley Starr two singles, a double and two RBIs; Abby Orr a single, two doubles and two RBIs; and Alexis Monroe a single, double and two RBIs.

Mytia Barker had a single and a triple for Big Red.

Toronto tops Madonna

WEIRTON - The Toronto softball team traveled to Madonna Thursday and came away with a 12-3 victory.

Cari Horne struck out 13 Blue Dons while giving up just four hits. Kayla Brown hit a home run and added a double while Carley Cooper picked up three singles to help lead the Red Knights charge.

Emily Hvizdak had a double for Madonna.

Madonna (7-7) plays a make up game at Oak Glen today at 5:30 p.m. Toronto (8-9) is in action again Monday at Linsly.

Crusaders edge Huskies

CADIZ - The Steubenville Central softball team came away with a 5-4 road victory at Harrison Central Thursday.

Paige Creamer earned the win in the circle for the Crusaders, giving up six hits while striking out nine. Micca Mirabella had three singles, three stolen bases and scored three runs. Creamer had a double.

Brooke Shultz led the Huskies with a double, single and three RBIs. Katie Ellzy had a pair of singles and runs scored.

Steubenville Central (15-4) travels to Bridgeport and Harrison Central (12-6) hosts Indian Creek.

Errors cost Weir

WEIRTON - The Weir baseball team lost at home Thursday to Burgettstown, 7-4. The Blue Devils broke open a 4-4 tie in the top of the sixth with three runs.

Matt Cessna had a home run and three RBIs for Weir with Ryan Duke picking up a single and double. Josh Russell and Jeremy Swartzmiller each had a single and an RBI.

The Red Riders (4-13) hurt their own cause by committing seven errors on the evening.

Huskies stop Panthers

CADIZ - The Harrison Central baseball team finished Buckeye Local in five innings Thursday by a score of 14-4.

Hunter Yarnell picked up the win, going five innings and striking out two. Rasheen Mitchell had a big day with a grand slam, a single and five RBIs. Rhett Kuryn had a single, triple and three RBIs with Ryan Rose picking up a single, double and two RBIs and Gabe Hyndman adding a double.

Brian Zeroski had a double and an RBI for the Panthers with Chase Hopkins and Shane Duncan each getting a single and driving in a run.

Harrison Central (12-8) hosts Indian Creek today.

Central blasts Buckeye Trail

LORE CITY - The Central baseball team traveled to Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 3A No. 1 seed Buckeye Trail and came away with a 14-3 win.

Aleks Porreca earned the win on the mound, going five innings, with Adam Lyons and Jimmy Panella coming on in relief in the sixth and seventh frames. Panella had a big day at the plate with a home run and three singles and Brenton Colabella added two doubles and a single. Brannt Pieniazek picked up a triple while Porreca and B.J. Grandinetti each added a double.

Central (14-4), the No. 3 seed in OVAC Class 2A, will take on No. 2 seed Toronto in OVAC action Saturday at the Knight Baseball Complex.

Tennis

Redskins defeat Big Red

STEUBENVILLE - The Indian Creek tennis team claimed all three singles matches Thursday, while homestanding Big Red won both doubles as the Redskins claimed a 3-2 team win.

In singles Fabio Mattina defeated Aaron Bottegal 6-1 twice, Shane Winland beat Harold Malone 6-1 and 6-5, and Jared Conn stopped Josh Fordham 6-4 and 7-5.

In doubles the team of Michael Nodianos and Michael Petrides beat Brandon Hammack and Justin Caniff 6-0 and 6-2 while Tyler Casto and Hannah Meyer topped Josh Shield and Caleb Smith with a pair of 6-0 scores.

Oak Glen over Madonna

CHESTER - The Oak Glen boys tennis team took two matches from Madonna Thursday.

The Golden Bears took a 4-3 decision in a match that began on March 19 and was suspended due to darkness and then claimed a 5-2 win in the second contest.

In the 4-3 Oak Glen win, the Blue Dons Nick Conforti opened singles with a 8-6 win over Tyler Brown. Madonna's Matt Conforti won the No. 2 singles 8-0 over Zach Brown.

Oak Glen claimed the next two singles matches with Josh Lehman topping Anthony Clements 9-7 and Addison Sayre beating Alan Alimario 8-4.

In doubles Nick and Matt Conforti topped Tyler and Zach Brown 8-0. Oak Glen then claimed the next two doubles matches with Lehman and Sayre beating Anthony Clements and Alimario 8-6 and Alex Bennett and Teddy Adkins defeating Dominic Clements and Dave Cullinan 8-0.

In Oak Glen's 5-2 win Nick Conforti kicked off the Blue Dons with a singles win over Tyler Brown, this time 8-3. Zach Brown was able to beat Matt Conforti in the rematch 8-1 with Lehman topping Anthony Clements 8-0 and Sayre beating Alimario 8-2. In doubles Nick and Matt Conforti stopped Tyler and Zach Brown 8-6.

Lehman and Sayre topped Anthony Clements and Alimario 8-3 and Bennett and Adkins beat Dominic Clements and Dustin Parr 8-5 for Golden Bears wins.
