WELLSBURG - Brooke was looking for that one hit.

And Cassi Camilletti provided it.

The sophomore roped a full-count, bases-loaded pitch to the outfield, where it was misplayed for a two-base error to clear the bases and lead the Bruins to a 6-4 victory over visiting Steubenville Big Red Wednesday.

MAKING CONTACT — Brooke’s Cassi Camiletti swings and hits a single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning Wednesday against Steubenville Big Red. Brooke’s Sam Cusick is on third base. Playing defense for Big Red at third is Sierra Fields. Haley Bowman followed with the first of her two doubles to plate Camilletti to finish the five-run fourth inning that wiped out a 1-0 deficit.

"We've played some good competition recently, but, good competition or not, we're not playing the way we need to play," said Bruins coach Mike Wagner. "We're making mistakes, errors in the field on plays that we are able to make.

"It's great to get a W today and you always feel great after a W, but we still had things today that we know we can do better and we need to continue to get better. On down the road we need to be as competitive as we can be.

"We got some good starting pitching today from Kristen (Reardon), and Kaylee (Kuchinski) came in and also pitched well and closed it out. We got some timely hits today and we've had some trouble getting those timely hits in the past."

For Steubenville and coach Dave Ziarko, the one big inning has been troubling them recently and it did so again.

"We definitely have had the one bad inning lately," he said. "In that one inning, Brooke hit the ball solid. There's that one inning that usually gets us and it did today.

"The thing I like is that as young as we are, the players never quit. They keep playing and keep playing hard. We chip away, but it was a little too much to overcome."

Big Red scored twice in the top of the fifth when Carmie Biasi singled, Anna Perrino reached on an error and Kayla Marker singled them home.

Brooke answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Sam Cusick doubled and came home on Jessica Kennedy's single. Kelsey Welsh singled between the hits.

Steubenville did not go quitely in the seventh. Christina Archer singled on a 1-2 pitch with one out and Marker followed with a single.

Kuchinski induced the last two outs as Archer scored.

"I'm really proud of them for that," said Ziarko. "Every game we've played they've never quit no matter what the score was. We've gone a full game with full effort and that's what we keep applauding them for."

Both teams had 10 hits.

"If we're striking out, there's no pressure on the defense," said Wagner. "When there are no baserunners the defense is relaxed out there. We have to keep putting pressure on defense by putting the ball in play and cutting down on our strikeouts. We need to make them make plays instead of making it easy on the defenses.

"When we are on defense, we don't ask for spectacular plays, we just need to make the routine plays that we can make."

Sierra Fields had three singles for Big Red.
