Teen hit by car outside Adena

ADENA - Josh B. Grim, 17, of 120 Hanna Ave., Adena, was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in critical condition after he was struck by a car on Rose Valley Road (Harrison County Road 14) around 4:50 p.m. Monday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The driver of the car, Robert Whinnery, 59, of 10385 county Road 10, Adena, was slowing down for the intersection with Harrison County Road 12 when he struck Grim as Grim was attempting to cross the road, the patrol reported.

The accident remains under investigation.

Probation ordered in theft case

STEUBENVILLE - Frank A. Savarese III, 28, of Martins Ferry was placed on two years probation on Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge David Henderson after Savarese pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property.

Savarese sold jewelry that was stolen from a Tiltonsville home in December.

The victim previously said her home was entered while she was asleep and jewelry, a laptop computer and credit and debit cards were stolen.

Savarese was ordered to make $2,500 in restitution. He faces up to 12 months in prison if he violates probation.

STEUBENVILLE - Brianna J. Cash, 29, of Steubenville was placed on two years of probation on Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge David Henderson after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Cash pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in Opana. One count had a juvenile specification.

Cash faces up to six years in prison if she violates probation.

Toronto man

STEUBENVILLE - John A. Oberholtzer. 26, 614 N. Fourth St., Toronto, was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. after pleading guilty to complicity to burglary and complicity to theft.

Oberholtzer was charged after an investigation into the March 23 break-in of a house in the 100 block of Benson Lane in which a TV, electronic game station and revolver were taken.

Oberholtzer, who has served a prior prison sentence for drug possession, will cooperate in the case against two co-defendants.

Salem Township cleanup dates set

RICHMOND - Salem Township has announced its spring cleanup will be held May 3-4 at the township garage located at the corner of state Route 43 and township Road 216.

Residents can drop off appliances, furniture, mattresses, carpeting, household, electronics, car batteries and standard car and light truck tires.

No paints, liquids or hazardous waste materials will be accepted.

Deadline today for new W.Va. voters

Today is the deadline for new West Virginia voters to register to cast a ballot in the May 8 primary election.
