Central beats Bishops

WHEELING - Paige Creamer and Maddy Gulan each blasted home runs Monday as the Catholic Central softball team earned a 7-2 victory over host Bishop Donahue at the I-470 Complex.

The Crusaders (13-3) kept their spot atop the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 2A standings.

Creamer also struck out eight to grab the win. Kayla Lloyd added a pair of singles.

Catholic Central visits John Marshall today. The Monarchs have won 21 in a row.

Jets defeat Huskies

MORRISTOWN - Union Local's softball team gave its head coach, Roger Herbert, a nice birthday gift by virtue of a 3-2 home win Monday against Harrison Central.

Caitlyn Sliva knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Huskies are 11-5 and still in second place in the Class 4A standings.

Katie Ellzy fanned six and walked three in the loss. Kara Dunfee had a single and two RBIs. Kiley Staley and Paige Dunlap each had two singles.

Bulldogs nip Knights

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat visiting Toronto, 3-2, Monday.

Ashley Hadzima singled with two outs, stole second and scored in a double by Emily Nowakowski.

The Red Knights, who host Weirton Madonna today, had four hits. Kayla Brown had a single and RBI and Chelsey Anderson a triple and RBI.

Cari Horne struck out 11 and walked none.

St. John tops Big Red

STEUBENVILLE - St. John Central scored 10 times in the top of the sixth inning for an 18-11 victory Monday over host Steubenville at Jim Wood Park.

Big Red scored seven in the bottom of the third inning for a 7-4 lead. The Irish plated two in the top of the fifth before the big inning.

Both teams had 12 hits.

Mytia Barker had a triple, single and two RBIs for Big Red. Shanna Roberts added three singles and an RBI, Allyson Freeman two singles and an RBI, Sierra Fields two singles and a triple, Anna Perrino a single and RBI and Carmie Biasi a single.

Steubenville visits Brooke Wednesday.

South sweeps Brooke

WELLSBURG - Brooke fell to 6-16 after losing a doubleheader Monday to visiting Parkersburg South, 18-0 and 9-4.

Kristen Reardon fanned eight in the first game, but the Patriots totaled 19 hits.

The Bruins held a 4-3 lead after the second inning in Game 2, but the visitors made a change in the circle and held the hosts scoreless the rest of the way.

Shannon Reardon had a single and double, Kelsey Welsh two singles, Kaylee Kuchinski a double and Courtney Rine, Sam Cusick and Jessica Kennedy all had singles.

Brooke hosts Steubenville Big Red Wednesday.

WHEELING - Wheeling Central held Weir High to four hits and grabbed an 8-0 home win Monday.
