Man pleads guilty to federal gun charge
WHEELING - Roger D. Sterling, 46, of Cumberland, Ohio, pleaded guilty Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp Jr. to possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II said Sterling pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition on Dec. 14 in Moundsville after having previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. Sterling previously was convicted in Brooke County for the offense of kidnapping and in Arizona for attempted fraudulent schemes, Ihlenfeld said.
Sterling, who is free on bond pending sentencing, faces up to 10 years in prison.
Wells Township looking for lifeguards
BRILLIANT - Wells Township officials are accepting applications for lifeguards for the summer season.
Those interested can pick up or drop off an application at the Wells Township office, 409 Propsect St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
Library board to meet April 23
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library board will meet at noon April 23 in the library's Elmer Vincent Room.
Summer hours set for MLK Center
STEUBENVILLE - The Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center will operate from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. starting April 30.
Recreation Director Troy Kirkendall said the center will be open using the summer hours schedule until September.
"I would also like to remind our patrons that the MLK Center gymnasium will be closed starting Monday for the floor refinishing project," said Kirkendall.
