STEUBENVILLE - After striking out on a 2-2 pitch in the bottom of the first inning, Steubenville Catholic Central senior Paige Creamer decided that wasn't going to happen again.

It didn't.

While striking out eight Steubenville Big Red batters of her own, Creamer followed her K with a double, home run and a bloop single as the Crusaders raised their record to 7-2 with a 10-0 victory over their rival in five innings Monday afternoon on Steve Zamana Field.

Oh yeah, she also pitched a no-hitter, facing one batter over the minimum.

"Paige pitched well today," said Catholic Central coach Jim DiCarlo.

"She hit her spots."

Creamer took the next 2-2 pitch she saw to left field for a double in the bottom of the third inning to plate Maddy Gulan, who also doubled.

She wasn't done.

Creamer ripped an 0-2 pitch over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth inning that started a seven-run uprising and ended the game in five innings.

"I was concerned because I thought we would be off to a slow start because we've had about a five-day break," said DiCarlo. "I thought we hit the ball well in the middle innings. The girls hit the ball hard and that makes me feel good."

Ashlynne Daley started the bottom of the fourth with a double and eventually scored for a 3-0 lead.

"We started one senior (Shanna Roberts), one junior (Christina Archer) and the rest are freshmen and sophomores," said Big Red coach Dave Ziarko. "We're young and inexperienced, but we are getting better in certain aspects of the game. We struggled with the bats today."

Central did not do that in the fifth inning.

Gulan singled and Creamer followed her with her blast over the left field fence.

Kayla Lloyd singled, Daley reached on a fielder's choice, Moziejko singled and Tori Knight walked to load the sacks. Micca Mirabella singled, Allee Vandeborne reached on a fielder's choice and Taylor Clark walked. Rachel Sommers walked and Creamer and Lloyd followed with back-to-back singles to end the contest.

"I think Dave does a good job with the youth that he has," said DiCarlo. "Any time it is Central and Big Red, you have to throw the records out the window. But, I didn't expect this.

"Also, Taylor Clark did a wonderful job for us today behind the plate."

Big Red fell to 2-10.

"We struggled a bit today with communication," said Ziarko. "We will continue to work hard and we will get better. We can play some really good softball. We just need to do it more consistently."

Catholic Central visits Weirton Madonna today.

"We just have to continue to hit the ball hard and put pressure on the defense," said DiCarlo.
