The 2013 campaign of the United Way of Jefferson County figures to get off to a great start Saturday, thanks to the generosity of this year's chair, Anthony Mougianis.
Mougianis will be putting his collection of Ohio State University memorabilia up for auction, with all proceeds benefiting the United Way.
The event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mougianis' business, Apollo Professional Cleaning, 1626 Cadiz Road, Wintersville, will include Buckeyes' treasures, large and small, that have been accumulated during the past 40 years.
As Mougianis explained, he has enjoyed the collection for many decades. Through the auction, he adds, those items will be able to bring enjoyment to others while helping area residents who are in need.
Those who attend Saturday's event will be able to bid on a variety of items, including an autographed photo and jersey from Archie Griffin, a national championship football signed by former coach Jim Tressel, a football signed by Eddie George, an ESPN "GameDay" hat signed by the hosts, several Woody Hayes items, a replica of the Schottenstein Arena and much, much more.
All of those items figure to keep veteran auctioneer Dale Featheringham busy all morning.
The celebration of Scarlet and Gray will be a great way, we might point out, for any fan of the Buckeyes to start his or her day, a day that will end with Ohio State's basketball team playing Kansas in the semifinals of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
We congratulate Mougianis for stepping up to lead this year's United Way campaign, and for his willingness to donate his Ohio State collection to help get the donations started early.
