Big Red nets a win

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Steubenville Big Red tennis team swept the doubles matches in a 3-2 win over host St. Clairsville Monday.

Michael Petrides and Brandon Llewellyn defeated Alexander Trouten and Chris Baker, 7-5, 6-2 and Josh Fordham and Tyler Casto beat Azzac Filburn and Caden Myers 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In singles play, Big Red's Aaron Bottegal stopped Danille DeNoble 6-4, 7-5. St. Clairsville's Anthony Bonnette beat Mike Nodianos 6-1, 6-3 and Izzac Wiley defeated Harold Malone 6-3, 6-1.

Steubenville (1-0) will host Linsly on Thursday

Oak Glen beats Redskins

CHESTER - The Oak Glen boys tennis team defeated Indian Creek, 6-1, Monday at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort.

Indian Creek's lone win when Fabio Mattina defeated Tyler Brown, 8-2.

Zach Brown beat Shane Winland and Addison Sayre topped Brandon Hammack, 8-0. Josh Lehman downed Jared Conn, 8-4.

Brown and Brown stopped Mattina and Winland, 8-6, Lehman and Sayre beat Conn and Hammack, 8-0, and Alex Bennett and Teddy Adkins defeated Justin Caniff and Caleb Smith, 8-2.

Crawley resigns at BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Steubenville Big Red graduate Sylvia Crawley has resigned her position as head women's basketball coach at Boston College for health reasons.

"I am putting my coaching career on hold to deal with a non-life-threatening, treatable condition," Crawley said. "I am grateful to Boston College for the opportunity to coach here. I wish the very best for the current and future student-athletes in the program."

"Sylvia is one of the best people I've had the opportunity to work with," said Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo. "I would like to thank her for her hard work and contributions to Boston College basketball."

In four seasons with the Eagles, Crawley compiled an overall record of 67-63 (20-38 in the ACC). The Eagles finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 7-23 overall record.

Assistant coach Tim Eatman will serve as interim head coach until a permanent successor is hired.
