Big Reds rally to beat Redskins

MINGO JUNCTION - The Indian Creek baseball team used a seven-run fourth inning to take a 7-5 lead at home at Muth Field against Bellaire only to fall victim to a seven-run Big Reds seventh inning and drop a 12-7 decision.

Dustin Rath had a double and a RBI to lead the Redskins. Ty Yocum, Anthony Davis, and Zach Crawford each added a single and an RBI. Zach Williams had an RBI as well.

Indian Creek (1-0) hosts Brooke (1-1) today at 4:30 p.m.

Brooke falls to University

MORGANTOWN - The Brooke baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning at University, but the Hawks scored 12 unanswered from there en route to a 12-2 win over the Bruins Monday.

Nick Breen had a single and a double and Russell Schwartzfeger had a pair of singles to lead the Bruins. Alec Buchmelter added a double and Steve Jeffries a single.

Brooke is at Indian Creek today at 4:30 p.m.

Huskies hold on against Ferry

CADIZ - The Harrison Central baseball team found itself down 3-0 after the first inning only to go up 6-3 with runs in the third and fourth and ultimately hold on for a 6-4 win over Martins Ferry.

Nick Pelegreen picked up the win for the Huskies, going the distance and striking out nine. At the plate Rashen Mitchel knocked in a pair of runs on two singles while Mike Horn, Hunter Yarnell and Garrit Sproull each had a single and a RBI. Drew Horn picked up a trio of singles.

Harrison Central (1-0) is at Oak Glen today.

Wildcats down Jets

MORRISTOWN - The Edison baseball team went on the road and handed Union Local a 4-2 loss Monday.

Greg Stagani went the distance striking out six and walking none for the Wildcats. Chad Wickham had two singles and an RBI, Mark Smyth a double and an RBI and Phil Hilt a single and a RBI at the plate.

The Wildcats and Jets will do it all over again Wednesday when they face off in Richmond.

Panthers outscored by Red Devils

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - St. Clairsville senior lefthander Sammy Vincenzo fired a five-hitter and struck out 12 in the Red Devils' season-opening 13-3 win over Buckeye Local at Memorial Park.

Vincenzo was backed by teammates Brandon Snider and D.J. Busby, both of whom collected two hits and combined for five RBIs.

Buckeye's Josh Malesky ran into third inning control problems, walking the first three St. Clairsville hitters which led to five runs.

Malesky, in three frames, totaled three strikeouts and four walks. Junior Lucas Ostovich came on in relief. The Panthers received RBI base knocks from catcher Corey Slaga and junior Brian Zeroski.
