U.S. Rep. David McKinley visited area communities this week, meeting with residents and discussing a variety of issues.
McKinley, a Republican from Wheeling, spent much of Monday in Hancock and Brooke counties, meeting with business owners in Chester, students at Weir High School, senior citizens in New Manchester and then holding a town hall in Wellsburg.
These visits gave many of our residents an opportunity to meet with the congressman, talk to him directly about their concerns and hear some of his thoughts on issues going before the House of Representatives and Senate.
While we're sure not everyone got the answers they were hoping for, we hope they at least recognize the opportunity they have had to express their views to our congressional representative.
When he was elected, McKinley pledged to come back to the Ohio Valley every weekend and meet with our residents as often as possible in order to hear directly from them.
In the last year, we believe he definitely has kept up with that promise, holding numerous town hall meetings and personally visiting every county in his district.
In a time when many of our citizens might go months without hearing anything from their representatives, those of us in West Virginia's 1st Congressional District have been fortunate in the last year to have someone stay so connected with its people.
We hope it continues.
