DIVICH, Sophia, 92, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Valley Hospice Care Center North.
She was born July 9, 1919, in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of the late John and Mary Stepanovich Divich.
Sophia was a very active member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church where she was a member of the Petar Krstich Choir and Sveta Petka Kolo.
She attended and graduated from Mingo Junction Schools and Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, with a degree in physical education.
Following her graduation, Sophia worked at the Mingo Junction Post Office, payroll department of Weirton Steel, an actuarial firm in Cleveland, Ohio, and MetLife Insurance Co. before being hired by the Hancock County Board of Education. She taught physical education, photography and served as tennis coach and Tri-HiY adviser at Weir High School. She remained active in other organizations, traveled, enjoyed music and was involved in continuing education programs at Baldwin-Wallace College, Kent State University and University of Steubenville until just a few years ago.
Sophia's caring and loving ways have forever touched the hearts of her students, friends and family.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Samuel and Milos Divich and a sister Mildred Divich Lalic.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio, on Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Monday at Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. Rade Merick officiating.
