Pieniazek’s 18 leads Crusaders

STEUBENVILLE - Senior Brannt Pieniazek scored 18 points Tuesday as the Catholic Central boys basketball team raised its record to 10-8 with an easy 65-47 victory over visiting Wheeling Central on Senior Night.

The Crusaders were in a battle with Linsly for the second spot in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 2A standings. The Cadets leadfrogged the Crusaders, meaning Catholic Central will visit Linsly next week in the Wheeling Hospital OVAC Basketball Championships semifinals.

Zach Herrington chipped in 15 points and Michael Carapellotti 13 for the Crusaders.

Big Red tops Cambridge

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Big Red boys basketball team used a late 7-0 run to beat Cambridge 53-48 Tuesday at the Crimson Center.

Big Red held a 44-42 lead and lengthened it to 51-42 with two minutes left in the game.

Gio Garcia led Steubenville (12-5) with 16 points. Periogn West added 11, Malik Richmond 10 and William Houst eight.

Big Red will visit St. Clairsville next week in the Wheeling Hospital OVAC Basketball Championships Class 4A semifinals.

Bishops slip past Toronto

TORONTO - The Bishop Donahue boys basketball team went 17 for 27 from the free throw line and Toronto 10 for 25 in Tuesday's 68-62 victory by the Bishops in the Gem City.

The visitors jumped out to a 24-17 lead after eight minutes, but the Red Knights chipped away at the lead to trail 49-47 entering the final eight minutes.

Dillan Gault led the Red Knights with 18 points. Tyler Owens added 16 and Brad Melville 15.

Toronto (2-15) hosts Edison Friday.

Panthers ground Jets

RAYLAND - The Buckeye Local boys basketball team put an end to its slide with a 71-67 victory over visiting Union Local on Tuesday.

Greg Ring scored 19 points to lead the Panthers, who had lost six of its last seven. Tyler Richardson added 14, Justin Isinghood 11 and Brennan Czuchran eight.
