Wellsburg Elks name Teens of the Month

Several Brooke High School students have been named Teens of the Month for October, November and December by the Wellsburg Elks Lodge.

Named Teens of the Month for October were Carly Gima and Vinny Pizzuti.

The daughter of Stanley and Mary Gima of Follansbee, Gima has been named to the Principal's Honor Roll and National Honor Society and received the All-Conference Academic Award, Certificate in Excellence in Biology and Outstanding Student Certificate.

A student in the honors program and employee of Burger King, she is on the school's academic team, marching and concert bands, varsity track and cross country teams, Key Club, of which she is co-editor; Spanish Club, for which she was treasurer; drama, chemistry and Rachel's Challenge clubs; Health Occupation Students of America, Future Business Leaders of America and Bruins for the Cross.

Pizzuti is the son of John and Dorothy Pizzuti of Follansbee. His honors include: National Merit Scholarship Commended Student, National Honor Society, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, Boys' State, Honor Roll, Principal's Honor Roll, bronze and silver academic pins, two-year recipient of the I Am Third Award for varsity basketball, given by fellow players to one who places faith, family and team before himself; Ohio Valley Athletic Conference All-Conference Academic Team, Cross Country Most Valuable Male Runner two years, Herald Star and Weirton Daily Times Academic All-Star and outstanding student in personal finance, keyboarding, honors Spanish II and III and honors biology, physical science, chemistry, trigonometry and pre-calculus.

November's Teens of the Month are Nathan Harper and Christa Bland.

Harper is the son of Greg and Tammy West of Follansbee. His honors include: Principal's Honor Roll for six semesters, National Honor Society, of which he is president-elect; the school's bronze and silver academic award pins; Herald-Star Academic All-Star, OVAC All-Conference Academic Award; and Outstanding Student in business/marketing, personal finance, Accounting I and II and business computer applications; Brooke-Hancock Leadership Council, National Student Leadership Conference and National Society of High School Scholars.

He is a four-year member of the football team, lettering his sophomore and junior year; played football for two travel teams, the Wellsburg Colts and Follansbee Middle School and played for local baseball leagues for nine years; and a member of Future Business Leaders of America and Interact.

Bland is the daughter of Jeffrey and Cheryl Bland. Her honors include National Honors Society, Outstanding Student in Business Applications, bronze and silver academic award pins, Girls State and perfect attendance.

A student in the honors program and employee of McDonald's, she has been editor of the school's yearbook, captain of the dance team, an alternate on student council, participant in the school's musicals and a member of the cheerleading squad, Bruin Leaders, math and French clubs, Friends of Rachel, Golddiggers dance group, track team and Paws and Claws.

December's Teens of the Month are Jessica Fowler and Josh Marosi.

The daughter of Jack And Debbie Fowler of Weirton, Fowler is in Key Club, Health Occupation Students of America, Art Club, Bruin Leaders; vice president of Future Business Leaders of America and Interact, and senior class treasurer.

She is a four-year varsity member of Brooke's state championship-winning cheering squad and also plays on the varsity softball team, has received the bronze and silver academic pins and was inducted to the National Honor Society.

Marosi is the son of Thomas and Donna Marosi of Follansbee. An honors student, his honors include Principal's Honor Roll, silver and bronze academic achievement awards, Outstanding Keyboarding and Accounting Principles Student, West Virginia Math Academic All-State Team, OVAC All-Conference Academic Team and Brooke representative at the 2011 Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce High School Business Symposium.

He is a two-year varsity letterman in wrestling and member of the Key and chemistry clubs, Future Business Leaders of America and Interact.
