What’s going on around the sports world?

What kind of teammate are you?

Are you like the 16-year-old football player at Washington Senior High School who has been accused of injuring 27 McClain High School football team members because he allegedly put a tack in his glove while going through the handshake line after the game, causing the opposing players to get tetanus shots?

This student has been dismissed from the football team and very well may face legal problems.

According to a story in the Willimgton News Journal:

Washington Court House City Schools Superintendent Keith Brown said Thursday that he cannot comment on disciplinary action being taken against the 16-year-old student.

Brown said the school district has punishment procedures in place in the event of a student using a weapon, but he said he could probably talk for hours about what does and does not constitute a weapon.

"I can tell you that our athletic director, high school principal and football coach have been working diligently in discovering the facts of the matter and what they intend to do," Brown said. "I'm very pleased with how they've handled it."

Felipe Barerra, a high school assistant football coach in Texas, was suspended from the team for a week after being caught on video "doing a crotch-chopping gesture in the direction of the Redskins bench," (according to offthebench.nbcsports.com) after his team won a football game in a field goal late in the game.

There is no word on what other disciplinary action he will face.

Like, being fired maybe?

Yeah, I know, same old Pitt.

New coach, new coaching staff, but same results.

Why?

Same kids, maybe.

It's not easy to turn things around in less than a year, despite what you may think.

People wanted Dave Waanstedt out and someone, almost anyone, new in.

Well, that happened.

Yet, the Panthers barely beat Maine - Maine!

They blew a lead at Iowa, whipped South Florida and, last week, laid an egg at Rutgers.

It's not easy to turn around the culture of a program, regardless of where it is.

It takes time and in this we-want-it-now world, fans tend to be really impatient.

Ohio State football coach Luke Fickell is going to take the fall at the end of the year. So, if the Buckeye fans want Ohio State's Gordon Gee and Gene Smith to give a blank check to Urban Meyer, the question is how long will it be before Meyer turns in his keys to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center?

Again, why Gee and Smith are still employed is beyond me.

The Steelers have forced one turnover in five games (last in the NFL) and that cannot continue. Six teams have forced double digits in turnovers. Before Sunday, Pittsburgh was the only team in the NFL without an interception and is tied for 22nd in sacks, with seven in five games.

The team is 24th in the league in rushing and will not get five touchdowns passes from Ben Roethlisberger each game, so something has to change.

Nyjer Morgan is a class act, isn't he?

Philadelphia Eagles coach took the bullet after Sunday's loss to Buffalo, their fourth in five starts.

"No. 1, there's nobody to blame but me," Reid said. "That's how I look at it. I take full responsibility for it. It's my team."

I would say the players need to be better, also.

Yes, there is freedom of speech, but what comes out your mouth at any time is subject to criticism, praise and the unemployment line.

Just when you think the Seattle Seahawks are going to go 2-14, they win a game in New York. The Indianapolis Colts are still the leader in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

Does anyone really care that the NBA might not have a season?

Understand it does not matter right now that Steubenville Big Red has dropped to No. 3 in the Division III, Region 11 standings. Big Red's finish has everything to do with Week 9 at home against Massillon.

Oak Glen has gone 2-0 the last two weeks and have dropped in the West Virginia Class AA standings. That, unfortunately, should happen again this week when winless East Liverpool visits Newell.

The Indian Creek football team has its destiny in its hands and that is something coach Andrew Connor and the players should relish.

Nice decision Carson Palmer. That one really worked for you.

At some point in time the Tim Tebow era must begin in Denver and it appears he'll get his chance to sink or swim really soon.
