Dr. Charles Capito adds Wellsburg office

WELLSBURG - Dr. Charles P. Capito now has three offices in the area, with the addition of his new office at 843 Commerce St.

"My goal is to provide specialized service to the community in sports medicine, arthroscopy and total joint replacement," said Capito, who is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, a specialist in shoulder arthroscopy and partial knee replacement, as well as hip and full knee replacement using smaller incisions.

Capito, born and raised in Weirton, earned his medical degree at West Virginia University and completed residency at the Johns Hopkins affiliated program in Baltimore, working with physicians and athletes of the then-Baltimore Colts and the Orioles and helping develop the largest sports medicine clinic in Maryland.

He also performed fellowship training in sports medicine with six months at the North Sydney Sports Medicine Institute in Australia and six months at the University of Virginia, learning expertise in treating high school, collegiate and professional athletes. He also researched and co-authored several articles on anterior cruciate ligament injuries in the American Journal of Sports Medicine and lectured on arthroscopic techniques for shoulder injuries at Boston University, Johns Hopkins, the University of Virginia and the University of Pittsburgh.

He also obtained fellowships in total joint replacement, spending six months at Harvard and six months at the University of Pittsburgh, where he co-authored a chapter in a book on joint reconstruction.

Capito also studied with world-renowned shoulder and knee surgeons in London, Ontario and Rochester, N.Y., as well as spending time working with the physicians and players of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was president of the West Virginia Orthopedic Association for two years and has sponsored several conferences on sports medicine at the Greenbrier, with international and guest lecturers on knee and shoulder arthroscopy.

He also is orthopedic team consultant for the Steubenville High School and Steubenville Catholic Central sports teams, as well as Weir High, Madonna and Oak Glen.
