A tradition since the 1940s is on the calendar again this year as the preparations are under way for the annual Holy Resurrection Serbian Festival Picnic that will be held July 24 from noon to 9 p.m. at Kings Creek, Weirton.
Admission is $2 and open to the public.
Different organizations within Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church at 530 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, prepare a variety of foods, including the church's women's group, Sveta Petka Kolo, which means "Circle of Sisters."
Its members will be making cabbage rolls, including, from left, Naida Viltro, President Mim Santilli, Secretary Donna Ivkovich, Martha Orbovich and Mimi Sarap. The Rev. Rade Merick, back, has been the church's pastor for 24 years.
In addition to cabbage rolls, food available will be wood-roasted lamb and chicken, kielbasa and sauerkraut, hot dogs, cabbage and noodles, and pastries.
The picnic also will include games and music by Srpski Sinovi, a Pittsburgh area group.
