Area Memorial Day programs announced

Memorial Day services will be held Monday in the following communities.

BEECH BOTTOM: A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Veterans Monument in front of the Village Building. Participants will include: Lawrence Jones, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, guest speaker; the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad, Beech Bottom Community Christian Church Choir, the Rev. Jay Armstrong of Apostolic Life Church and a representative of Holy Family Catholic Mission. It will be followed by refreshments at Beech Bottom Community Christian Church.

COLLIERS: A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Monument by Colliers Primary School. Participants will include: the Revs. Fred Fletcher and Tom Deane; Colliers United Methodist Church Choir, Chloe, McKensie and Sabrina Fox; Patty Fletcher, Bernie Sanders, Katy Gardei and the Colliers Fire Department. Refreshments will be served at the school.

FOLLANSBEE: A service will be held at 11 a.m. outside American Legion Post 45 at Main and Raymond streets. Participants will include: Bill Schwertfeger, a World War II veteran; Mayor Tony Paesano, Post 45 Commander Bill Haught, the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad, Taylor Pannett, Brent Kimball and Bill Cooper. A short parade on Main Street from the Garibaldi Lodge to the post will preceed it at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at the post afterward.

WELLSBURG: The Brooke County Public Library invites visitors to observe 15 minutes of solemn observance at 10:30 a.m. in the library's Elmer Vincent Meeting Room. Refreshments will be served.

Bethany held a service Friday evening at the Veterans Memorial at Bethany Park. John Chernenko, a World War II prisoner of war; and the Rev. Scott Thayer, pastor of Bethany Memorial Church; were among those slated to participate.
