WELLSBURG - Those yearning to get out after a long winter are invited to a spring-themed event that also will showcase the many types of goods and services found in Brooke County.

More than 60 Brooke County business and organizations thus far have agreed to share information and samples, including a variety of food served up by local restauranteurs and caterers, for the fifth annual Discover Brooke County event April 19.

The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall operated by the Wellsburg Fire Department. Admission is $5, with proceeds going to various community projects supported by Brooke County AARP Chapter 3910, which is coordinating it with the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Children 10 and under will be admitted at no cost.

Bill Konkle, president of the AARP chapter, said many new businesses are participating this year.

Each participant is asked to provide a door prize to be awarded during the event, and all are encouraged to bring something small or large to be given to those who visit their tables.

Riverwood Chiropractic of Wellsburg will be offering massages.

Also participating is Rickey Conley of Wellsburg, who will appear with the stock car he has driven in many regional races; and singer-keyboardist Jack Giacomel of The Light Touch, who will provide music.

There also will be a 50-50 drawing.

Konkle said the event has proven to be a great way for local businesses and non-profit groups to gain exposure, with participation and attendance increasing each year.
