Clothes closet
open to public
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Clothes Closet at 26th Street and Pleasant Avenue is now open to the public from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month or by appointment by calling Bobbie Jo Parsons at (304) 670-0396 or Beckie Patterson at (304) 479-4773.
Overseen by volunteers, the clothes closet has a variety of clothing for children and teens collected by Brooke County chapters of the PTA.
Exercise classes offered
COLLIERS - Non-aerobic exercises aimed at improving stability, balance and strength will be offered from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. each Tuesday at Olde St. John's Episcopal Church on Eldersville Road.
The class will be taught by Jan Caprarese, a certified fitness instructor, and a $2 donation is requested.

movie to be shown
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-13-rated film "Unstoppable," starring Denzel Washington, on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Portions of the film, about a runaway train, were filmed in Steubenville and Belmont County, Ohio.

Elks to hold
wine tasting
WELLSBURG - Wellsburg Elks Lodge 1553 will hold its Sixth Annual Wine Tasting Social March 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Twenty winemakers from the tri-state area will bring their prize vintages for sampling during the event, which also will include food, a Chinese auction and 50-50 drawing.
Proceeds will benefit the lodge's programs and charities.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the lodge or from any member of the committee, which is chaired by Norma Wilson.

Family films to be screened
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing two family films on March 26: "Nanny McPhee Returns" at 11 a.m. and "Shrek Forever" at 1:30 p.m.

Bethany to host guest
BETHANY - Motivational speaker Alexis Jones will address students, staff and visitors at Bethany College Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the college's Weimer Lecture Hall.
Jones' visit is part of the college's Women's Month activities, which includes a variety of programs and community service projects centered around women's issues.
A former teen model, Jones earned a master's degree in communication from the University of Southern California and was a final contestant on the CBS show, "Survivor: Micronesia."
She also works as a writer and television host.
Relay for Life kickoff set
WELLSBURG - The Brooke-Hancock Relay for Life Committee will hold a kickoff dinner for the annual fundraiser at 6 p.m. March 29 at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall.
Cancer survivor Connie Young and caregiver Amanda DiMarzio will share their experiences.
Anyone interested in supporting or participating in the Relay for Life, which will be held June 4-5 at Brooke High School, is welcome.
Heaven focus of book study
FOLLANSBEE - Local pastor Colleen Molinaro will lead a book study based on the New York Times bestseller "Heaven is for Real" beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Follansbee Branch Library.
Bingo to benefit relay
WELLSBURG - A bingo will be held April 3 at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall to raise money for the Brooke-Hancock American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Doors will open at 1:30 p.m., with early bird games to start at 3:30 p.m. and regular games at 4 p.m.
The cost is $25 per player for the event, which will include more than $2,000 in prize money (based on a minimum of 100 players), including $500 for a coverall, and more than 60 door prizes.

Library board to meet
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library Board will meet at 3 p.m. Monday in the Elmer Vincent Meeting Room of the library.
Candidate to appear
WELLSBURG - Mark Sorsaia, a Republican candidate for West Virginia governor, will share his goals and ideals at a meeting of the Brooke County Republican Party executive committee at 6:30 p.m. March 28 at the Brooke County Public Library.

Church to hold luau
WELLSBURG - Brooke Hills Free Methodist Church at 1340 Washington Pike will hold a luau for children in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today.

Church to hold breakfast
FOLLANSBEE - St. Anthony Catholic Church of Follansbee will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast at St. Francis Centre, 805 Lee Road, on Sunday and March 27 and April 3, 10 and 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children and includes pancakes, sausage, fruit cup and drink.
Church to sell soup
COLLIERS - Olde St. John's Episcopal Church, at Eldersville and St. John's roads, will be selling assorted soups for take-out only from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The cost is $5 per quart and adavance orders may be made that day and by calling 527-4746.
