The Valentine's Day celebration for the residents of Dixon's Health Care was extra special this year as they received a visit from first-grade pupils from Wintersville Elementary School.
The pupils presented the residents with care baskets that included a variety of toiletry items as well as crossword puzzles. They also visited with the residents and sang Valentine's Day songs.
The visit is part of the school's character education program and is the first-grade's service learning project. The pupils and teachers visit the residents each year around the same time, and the event has become a joy for the pupils and the residents alike.
It is great to see these children learn the values of community and integrity through these projects. Little do they know that their small time spent at the nursing home will be cherished by the residents for years to come. It is very heartwarming to hear such a story.
Hats off to the first-grade class and its teachers for another successful year, and thanks goes to the other school pupils and staff for realizing the importance of helping out and being active in the community.
