Candidates for mayor and several council seats will appear on ballots in elections to be held in Weirton, Follansbee and Wellsburg this spring.
The three cities are slated to hold primary elections on April 5. City residents wishing to vote should register before March 15 at the government offices of their respective cities.
In Weirton three have declared their candidacy for mayor. They are: George Kondik of 1304 Overlook Drive; Harold "Bubba" Miller of 112 Veltri St., and John Moore of 137 Hindman Lane.
Both Kondik and Miller are current councilmen. Moore is a former council member. Incumbent Mark Harris chose not to seek re-election.
Also on the ballots will be candidates for the following council seat:
1st Ward: incumbent Ronnie Jones of 312 North 10th St., and challengers Charles Mitchell of 628 Titus St., and Bill Zanieski of 159 McKinley Road.
2nd Ward: Chuck Wright of 140 Grimm Way, and Eric Zaney of 101 Sherry Court. Incumbent Harold Miller is seeking the mayor's seat.
4th Ward: Incumbent George E. Ash Sr. of 3125 Orchard St., and challenger George Vacheresse Jr. of 4104 Labelle Ave.
5th Ward: Tracy DiBacco of 3725 Woodlawn Way, Justin Bull of 3808 Brightway St., John Brown of 3549 Lindberg Way, and George Gaughenbaugh of 3704 Riverview Drive. Incumbent George Kondik is seeking the mayor's seat.
Third Ward Councilman Fred Marsh and 6th Ward Councilman Dave Dalrymple are unopposed.
Terry Wiegel of 144 Valley Way, is unopposed as a candidate for council's 7th Ward seat. Incumbent Max Fijewski chose not to seek re-election.
In Follansbee three will vie for the mayor's seat. They are: John A. Casinelli of 1015 Virginia Ave., R. Glenn Kocher of 531 Penn St., and David Velegol Jr. of 400 Heathermoor Drive. Incumbent Tony Paesano chose not to seek re-election.
Two will compete for the position of police chief: challenger Arty Quattrochi of 540 Mahan Ave., and incumbent John W. Schwertfeger of 1083 Jefferson St.
Individuals holding the offices of city clerk and city attorney, council at large seat and council members representing the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Wards are unchallenged.
Wellsburg voters will have just one race to determine. Paul T. Billiard of 1523 Main St., and Tammy Provenzano of 200 Sycamore St., have filed for a council seat representing the 2nd Ward for a full term.
Provenzano was appointed to the council seat in August following the resignation of Joe McAllister, and the seat already had been set to go on ballots in this year's election.
Unopposed are 1st Ward Councilman Mike Mitchell, 2nd Ward Councilman Ron Michaux, and 4th Ward Council members Della Serevicz and Jeff Tarr, who also were appointed to their seats following the resignations of council members.
The seats held by Mitchell and Serevicz were set to go on ballots this year, while the seats held by Michaux and Tarr, which have two years remaining in their four-year terms, must go on ballots in compliance with state law.
Elected in 2007, 3rd Ward Councilman Randy Fletcher is unopposed in his bid for re-election.
The cities' general elections will be held June 14.
