AMSTERDAM - The Jefferson County Drug Task Force arrested six people Monday in the Amsterdam-Bergholz area following an undercover operation.

The drug task force reported most of those charged were selling prescription oxycodone, a pain reliever.

Donald L. Lanham, 72, of 125 Springfield Township Road 275, Bergholz, was considered by the drug task force as the source of the oxycodone. Those who purchased the drugs from him then resold the pain killers to others, the drug task force reported.

The drug task force was in the Amsterdam-Bergholz area several times a week for the past couple of months investigating the drug trafficking.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said, "There are a lot of drugs flowing through the Amsterdam-Bergholz area. We will be stopping by other areas in the future. There are a lot of drugs out there."

Donald Lanham was charged with drug trafficking and possession of drugs. Matthew Lanham, 38, of 266 township Road 307, Wolf Run, also was charged with drug trafficking and possession of drugs.

Charged with one count of drug trafficking were the following: Lucy F. Bernardi, 54, of 118 Arch St., Amsterdam; David A. Hinerman, 36, 118 Arch St., Amsterdam; and David J. Smith, 53, of 483 Second St., Amsterdam.

Randy Carpenter, 49, of 130 Front St., Amsterdam, was charged with felony cultivating marijuana after the drug task force found a growing operation involving more than 50 marijuana plants inside Carpenter's house.

The arrest of a seventh person is pending, the drug task force reported.

Three vehicles and about $4,000 in cash were seized during the arrests, the drug task force reported.
