Guilty plea entered in garage accident

STEUBENVILLE - A city man who was with a prostitute in a hospital garage and struck a security guard with his vehicle pleaded guilty on Tuesday before Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge David Henderson.

Dale E. Hanlon, 59, of 1132 Oak Grove Ave. pleaded guilty to one count of failure to stop after a nonpublic road accident.

The county prosecutor's office reported Hanlon was in a vehicle at the Trinity Medical Center East parking garage with a prostitute on Aug. 26, 2009. When a security guard went to check on the vehicle, Hanlon hit the security guard with his vehicle, the prosecutor's office reported.

Ryan W. Larkins, 21, of 981 Salem Township Road 216, Richmond, pleaded guilty before Henderson to a charge of arson.

Larkins was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department after an investigation into the May 8 arson of a tractor on county Road 57, Irondale. The sheriff's department reported Larkins poured gasoline on the tractor during the incident.

Henderson ordered a presentence investigation.

Nicholas M. Mavromatis, 19, of 1658 Hill St., Brilliant, was sentenced by Henderson to six months in the Eastern Ohio Correction Center after Mavromatis pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.

Mavromatis was charged with taking DVDs from a house in the 1600 block of Hill Street, Brilliant, and two electronic video game machines from a house on Gilchrist Street in Brilliant, both on Jan. 27. He also was charged with taking scrap metal and metal shelving from a vacant house on state Route 151, Mingo Junction, on April 27.

Mavromatis was ordered to make $1,650 in restitution. He will be on probation for two years following his release from the Eastern Ohio Correction Center.

William Renforth, 25, of 3395 county Road 19, Brilliant, was sentenced to six months in the Eastern Ohio Correction Center by Henderson after Renforth pleaded guilty to theft.

Renforth is charged with stealing a TV and electronic video game machine on April 10.

He will be on probation for two years following his release from the Eastern Ohio Correction Center.

Charles Piper, 30, of 172 Union St., Mount Pleasant, was sentenced to six months in prison by Henderson after Piper pleaded guilty to breaking and entering.

Piper was charged with breaking into the Corner Deli in Mount Pleasant on July 13. Henderson ordered Piper to pay $500 in restitution to the deli.
