STEUBENVILLE -- City Council approved an ordinance Tuesday authorizing the city manager to advertise for bids for the installation of a permanent sewer monitoring system.
Sixth Ward Councilman David Lalich introduced the legislation a week ago and said the monitoring equipment has been mandated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
In other business the council heard the first reading of an ordinance that will see the Hollywood Drive access road vacated.
A developer is preparing to purchase three properties at the Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard interesection for the construction of a new CVS pharmacy store an has asked for the street to be vacated by the city.
The council heard the second reading of an ordinance to rezone the Gump property on Sunset Boulevard.
The developer is seeking the rezoning in order to have enough property for the CVS store.
The council also heard a second reading of an ordinance that will allow the city to vacate an alley between Lincoln and Wilson avenues.
