Toronto Sunrise Seniors Club meets

The Toronto Sunrise Citizens Club met at the Stratton municipal building for its annual Christmas dinner.

Special guests included Mayor John Geddis and his wife Kitten, Don and Cheryl Clarke and Jeff and Becky Foster. There were 84 members in attendance. Ted Riffle and Jim Wilson won the 50-50 drawing. Each table was decorated with a miniature Christmas tree which was awarded to one member of each table. President Susan Kulstad also passed out a Christmas present for each member.

City veteran on World War II flight

Donald King of Toronto, a World War II veteran, was aboard the honor flight from Columbus to Washington, D.C., on Nov. 7. Veterans boarded a bus in Baltimore to the World War II Memorial before visiting Arlington National Cemetery where they witnessed the changing of the guard. They then visited the Iwo Jima the Iwo Jima Air Force memorials. The free flight honors World War II veterans and everything is free.

North River Avenue Christian events

Feb. 7 - The new member and teacher recognition is set for noon. All new members will be honored. Those attending should bring their own table service, while the church will provide the meat and beverages. All members are urged to attend, and a sign up sheet is posted.

Feb. 14 - This is Scout Sunday.

Feb. 21 - The baby recognition service is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. All babies born since Feb. 22, 2009, will be honored.

The junior church worship program for those ages 5 through fourth grade has begun. All youth go directly to the junior worship area downstairs. The service begins at 9:45 a.m. Sundays. Designated adults will lead along with Rob Minto.

First United Methodist activities

Today - The offices are closed.

Sunday - The rise and shine service will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. The worship service will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Thursday - The offices will be closed. Take Off Pounds Sensibly will meet at 9 a.m.

Riverview United Methodist Church

The Riverview paper drive is the third Saturday of each month, while the ecumenical men's dinner is the third Monday of each month.

The Toronto Unit of the Salvation Army is in the church and is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Those needing hats or mittens should call (740) 537-4737. The Salvation Army's Prescription Assistance Program is available from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Thursday of each month. For information, call (740) 537-2210.
